A new Rush Hour movie is officially on the way, thanks in part to President Donald Trump’s push to get it made.
In November 2025, multiple outlets reported that Paramount had greenlit production for Rush Hour 4 after the president lobbied for the film. He reportedly did so "on behalf" of the director of the 1998 original film, Brett Ratner, Puck’s Matthew Belloni wrote on X.
This project would mark the director's return to Hollywood after he was accused of sexual misconduct and harassment by multiple women in Hollywood, including Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge. Ratner denied all accusations.
Rush Hour 4 was previously discussed in 2022, but the film got stuck in production limbo.
Outside of Ratner's involvement, most details — including whether or not franchise stars Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker will reprise their roles — haven't been confirmed. Here's everything we know so far about Rush Hour 4.
Who is directing Rush Hour 4?

Ratner has signed on to direct Rush Hour 4, according to Puck. He was at the helm for Rush Hour in 1998 and the two follow-up films in 2001 and 2007, as well as hits like Red Dragon, X-Men: The Last Stand. He was also an executive producer of the series Prison Break.
During the 2017 #MeToo movement, Ratner was accused of sexual misconduct and harassment by six women who spoke out against the producer and director in a piece for the Los Angeles Times. He denied all allegations and has since remained out of the public eye.
Prior to the Rush Hour 4 announcement, Amazon MGM Studios announced in October 2025 that Ratner was developing a documentary about first lady Melania Trump.

The cast of Rush Hour 4 has not been announced, including whether Chan and Tucker will reprise their roles as Detective Lee and Detective Carter. However, both actors have confirmed that they would be on board to return to the franchise.
During a May 2025 interview with ScreenRant, Chan joked that time was ticking on getting a new Rush Hour movie to the big screen. "Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer. Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and me [will be] 100 years old," the Oscar-winning actor joked. "We’ll be old men doing Rush Hour.”
While Tucker didn't express a similar fear about their ages, he did tell ScreenRant in March 2023 that he would be game to do a Rush Hour 4 because he loves "working with Jackie."
Why is President Trump involved in Rush Hour 4?

President Trump reportedly lobbied alongside Paramount Skydance shareholder Larry Ellison — who is also the father of Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison — to push a new Rush Hour movie through, per The Guardian.
Though it’s not clear why the president advocated this movie in particular, it fits with his recent pattern of weighing in on decisions made by major media executives. Earlier in the year, Paramount drew attention when it settled a lawsuit Trump brought over a CBS News segment involving him.
He claimed the network misrepresented former Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 campaign-trail remarks during an appearance on 60 Minutes, Reuters reported, and Paramount eventually agreed to direct $16 million to Trump’s future presidential library as part of the settlement.
